Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has commissioned East Africa's first Traffic Control Centre to help manage congestion in the capital. The centre uses real-time monitoring and coordination to improve traffic flow.

In a related development, KCCA signed a €250 million deal with UK firm COLAS Ltd. to upgrade 127 km of roads across 118 roads in all five city divisions—Nakawa, Rubaga, Kawempe, Makindye, and Central. The project includes drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, road widening, solar streetlights, and bus stops.

Combined with ongoing projects—KCRRP, GKMA-UDP, and government-funded upgrades—Kampala aims to expand its paved road network to 929.4 km (44% of the total 1,204 km network).
